Greetings All.

I hope and trust this finds you all well.

The 2009/2010 outdoor art show season in South Florida is in its final weeks, but we have several fine shows remaining. I have listed these dates below.

This was my first full season for doing outdoor art shows. I have been very gratified by the response and results. I have had the opportunity to show with many talented, pleasant fellow artists. The people coming to the shows have been wonderful as well: the year-long South Floridians, the "Snow Birds," (visitors for
2+ months), the "Snow Flakes" (new to me, visitors one month or so), and tourists -- many from Canada, Europe, South America, and as far away as Australia.

Sales of my limited edition, numbered Giclees (on canvas and museum-quality paper of all different sizes) of my Golf Landscapes, Florida Scapes/Low Country scenes, and my new series of Dunes and Seascapes this year have been very active and successful resulting in many sales. I also added packs of greeting cards for both the Golf Landscapes and packs of Florida Scapes-- six in a pack with envelopes-- they continue to sell like "hot-cakes" at all shows. I'll probably have them in some area gift shops in the near future.

I have also been very satisfied with the sales of my originals and commissions for original paintings which I have received this season. Above, please find some of the originals which I have recently sold.

"DUNES SERIES, 2009"-- Four Original Oils Completed and Presented

I hope and trust this finds you all well.

I am very happy to introduce four paintings in my "DUNES SERIES, 2009" recently completed. All four paintings are based on photos that I took this past July off the coasts of Jacksonville, Ponte Vedre, and St. Augustine beaches.

The look and feel of these paintings are refreshingly different for me. Don't get me wrong-- I continue to focus on local and nationally well-known golf courses for my golf landscapes and their related limited edition Giclee prints. In addition, I continue to love painting memorable scenes of the limitless depth and breadth of Florida's backwoods and wetlands.

However, this "Dune Series" has pushed me into an area that is so much reflective of another aspect of Florida's and the South's natural beauty that has always intrigued me. More paintings of this subject area will follow in the future.

The paintings in this series (that are first being publicly offered this weekend at the Delray Art League's outdoor show at Veteran's Park, Dec. 12, 13, 2009) :

Greetings All,

I hope and trust everyone had an enjoyable and meaningful Thanksgiving. I did.

On Monday, November 23, 2009, I had the distinct honor and pleasure of playing in the "Friends of Ken Green" fundraiser tournament at Rees Jones Breakers West Country Club in West Palm Beach. I played as the guest of one of the tournament's organizers.

Our fivesome's pro was Jasper Parnevik who was very hospitable and enjoyable to play with.

I donated for the live auction, held in the beautiful Breakers West clubhouse following the golf, my AUGUSTA NATIONAL, Number 12, original oil, framed, 24"x30" [unframed] with a value of $ 3500.00. I was very pleased with where it ended up with the winning bidders.

Ken Green, a five-time winner on the PGA tour, has by his own repeated admissions contended with many demons in his professional and personal life. Six months ago, while returning from a PGA Champions Tour tournament, Ken was in a horrifically tragic accident in his RV with his brother, girlfriend of many years, and his beloved German Shepherd dying in the crash. Ken suffered severe injuries. Faced with his doctors' prognosis, Ken had his mangled left leg amputated at the knee in hopes of returning to golf. With the aid of a prosthesis (that is still a work a progress), Ken has played some golf. He is determined to make a comeback to the PGA Champions' Tour. It was inspiring to see him at the Nov. 23 event at Breakers West. Brett Rendina- "All Ivy League Golf, 2009," Atlantic City Country Club painting Unveiled

I hope and trust everyone is ready for an enjoyable and meaningful Thanksgiving, 2009.

This past Sunday evening, November 22, 2009, I had the distinct pleasure and honor of attending a special family gathering at Richard and Barbara Rendina's lovely home in Steeplechase, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The "special occasion" was the unveiling of a surprise painting for their son Brett, which Rich and Barbara commissioned me do several months ago.

The painting (see above) is of the 18th hole at the world-re known Atlantic City Country Club with Brett in the foreground re-living this past year's "All Ivy League Golf Tournament, 2009" in which Brett placed an impressive 2nd out of the entire field-- just one shot back of the eventual winner.

I had the honor and privilege of coaching Brett (CNHS, 2005) for four years on the Cardinal Newman High School golf team in West Palm.

Brett went on to the University of Pennsylvania and had a very successful four years there on the golf team as well as excelling academically. Brett graduated Penn class of 2009.

His dad, Rich and mother Barbara wanted to surprise him with this special graduation gift that graphically celebrates his wonderful four years at Penn.

Together with his parents, sister Rachel, maternal and paternal grandmothers, many cousins and other relatives, and many friends, the painting was unveiled to Brett's surprise.

It gave me much pleasure and gratification to be part of this celebration and to have painted this special work.

Delray Art League's First Show, Nov. 14-15, 2009, of the 2009/2010 Season

Hello All,

This past weekend, November 14 and 15, we in the Delray Art League had our first of the 2009/2010 Season's 13 shows extended through early April, 2010.

The crowd was relatively small but wonderful-- the weather cooperated both days. Sales were kind of slow-- but business at these shows historically pick up in December and a quite good through the end of the season.

Our next show is Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 28 and 29. This show should be a much better show as there is also a Downtown Delray arts and crafts show that will send a lot of people our way.

All of the Delray Art League's outdoor shows are hosted at the beautiful Veterans Park, located on East Atlantic Blvd on the northwest side of the Intracoastal.

The schedule for the next two months (I'll have regular postings here for future shows) of the Delray Art League ( Saturdays and Sundays, 9:30 AM -- 4:30 PM ):

Venice Show, November 7- 8, 2009, Another Success

Greetings All,

My second of the 2009/2010 season outdoor art shows was a considerable success.

Held in beautiful downtown Venice, Florida, November 7-8, 2009, the weather both days was wonderful. While the season is still young (a lot of the snowbirds have yet to return) and a relatively weak art market (like so many aspects of the overall economy), I was grateful for the results I achieved.

I sold eight small to medium size originals together with a fair number of my limited, signed, Giclee golf landscape and Florida landscape prints of varying sizes. One family purchased three originals -- of Florida landscapes -- they had places picked out in their house for them. It is very gratifying to me and other artists to have people like your work-- and buy it too !!

Sorry, I do not have any pictures of this show. I had my camera but things got so busy at times, I forgot to take any. Oh well, I'll make up for it in future shows. But, I have added a picture of a sailing scene that I took earlier this summer off of St. Augustine. Venice Beach was just at the end of downtown, and I saw some similar cats and other sail boats.

Las Olas Show, Oct 24-25, 2009, A Success

Greetings All.

This past weekend, Oct. 24 - 25, 2009, in the 22nd Annual Las Olas Art Fest, I participated in my first outdoor art show of the 2009/10 season. This was also my first show in my relatively new endeavor as Greg Sherman Art LLC.

In spite of the weather-- some rain and very hot, humid conditions-- and relatively weak sales for all artists, overall it was a success for me in many respects. I made some nice sales of several small originals, many prints-- Giclees both on canvas and paper-- and established many good prospects for future sales. Overall, the large crowd was pleased with my work and that is a nice feeling.

Many good friends dropped by and I thank them for that. And, I meet many new people.

My new display tent and components worked out well, and is not that difficult to get into place (Saturday began at 5:00 AM with artists getting their tents and art in place-- builds character).

My next show is this coming weekend in the Downtown Venice Art Festival which I am looking forward to. I'll have more information about this show in another posting during the coming week.

Please see a couple of photos above of some lifelong friends that came down from Jupiter: in the photo with me is Mary Clark, my late Mom's best friend of 40+ years. They were also painting partners, and individually and together widely respected and successful painters in the Palm Beach County area for many years. In the other shot is Mary, her eldest son, Michael and his wife Ellen. Michael (and his three younger brothers) together with me and my brothers and sisters go back 40+ years with many fond memories of the Shermans and Clarks getting together regularly.

Also showing with this posting is my most recently completed golf landscape, "PGA National, Championship Course, Number 16."

Hello All, I hope and trust this finds you well.

Just three weeks until my first major outdoor show of the 2009/10 season-- 22nd Annual Las Olas Art Fest in Ft. Lauderdale.

Above, please see my two most recently completed paintings:

"Royal Poinciana in Bloom," 16" x 20" [unframed], Original Oil. This painting is based on photos of Royal Poinciana that I have taken in South Florida. Also, as best I can remember-- going back almost 45+ years-- this composition is based on the short walk up to the Intracoastal Waterway from my Uncle's and Aunt's home on 48th Street (many years ago, a wonderful neighborhood). I recall the path and a stately Royal Poinciana on that property (now a 20 story condo).

"Low Tide Mangroves," 16" x 20" [unframed], Original Oil. This work is based on a series of photos that I took this past summer off of A1A, North Singer Island. But, the setting could be one of many in the South Florida, and indeed coastal Florida areas.

These paintings will be available for sale at the Las Olas show and they will also be published in my limited, signed, and numbered Giclee print series.

Latest Completed Painting: The "PGA Championship Course, Number 15" PGA Resort, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida

I am very pleased to post here my latest completed painting, "PGA Championship Course, Number 15", Original Oil, 24" x 36" [unframed] located at the world-reknown PGA Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

This course is the home of the PGA's "Honda Classic" and has served as the site of a previous Ryder Cup, as well as previous Champion Tour stops.

I based this painting on many photos that I took this past summer. In addition, I have been fortunate to have played this hole many times over the past years. Hole Number 15, one of the finishing holes in the treacherous "Bears Claw" [designed by Jack Nicklaus], is a beautiful and intimidating one at the same time with its water hazards and tight driving, landing areas.

"PGA Championship, Number 15" will be the "feature" painting for my first outdoor art show for the 2009/10 season, the 22nd Annual Las Olas Art Fest, October 24, 25,2009. (my complete 2009/10 Show Schedule can be found on my web site, www.gregshermanart.com)

The original will then be first avialable for sale, together with limited edition Giclee prints for this show as well as future ones.

In addition to the complete image size [as framed], I have also provided a detail shot of the green area. I apologize as the photos are a bit out of focus [I am going to have to work more on my photography skills].

It gave me great pleasure to complete this painting on my birthday, Sept. 27, 2009.

Juried Into "Signature" Status, Boca Raton Museum of Art Artists' Guild, Sep 22, 2009

I am pleased and gratified to announce that this past Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, I was juried as a "Signature" artist into the Boca Raton Museum's Artists' Guild. The process: artists are required to submit four of their completed works (mine in oil), and a professional artist juror, curator reviews the works, critques, and then approves or rejects the "Signature" status. Once again, I was pleased to be elevated to this status.

Signature members are listed on the Boca Raton Artists' Guild's web site with a "Profile" page. Additionally, Signature members may place their works in the Boca Raton Artists' Guild's gallery located on East Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach, exhibit in selected "Signature" shows, and invited to submit works in prestigious art shows in the Boca Raton-South Florida area.

I am having fun with and making good progress on my latest golf landscape, "PGA Championship, Number 15," oil, 24" x 36". This painting is based on a series of photos (some displayed below in earlier postings) which I took this past summer, as well as my having personally played this very challenging hole many times in the past.

I am very pleased to announce that effective today, September 10, 2009, Main Street News, 255 Royal Poinciana, Palm Beach is the initial retail outlet that is carrying my limited, numbered, and signed Giclee prints of selected golf and Florida Landscapes.

The Main Street News store is a well-established store and tradtion on The Island. It carries probably the largest collection of national and international periodicals, newspapers, and specialty books. It also has a beautiful and varied collection of small gifts-- you won't find many of these items anywhere else.

I am especially fond of its special section of golf periodicals and golf novelty items. That is where (in the rear of the store) I have my golf (and a few Florida Landscape) prints displayed. Please see the photos above -- me standing by the prints' display, and a shot from the outside showing the exterior of the really nifty, cool Main Street News store in Palm Beach.

Look for additional selected retail outlets (with a golf following) to be announced in the future. This retail market is just one of among many marketing and distribution resources in the overall marketing program of Greg Sherman Art, LLC.

Greetings All,
Hope you all are ready for and enjoying the Labor Day weekend. Give thanks for meaningful work, and thoughts and prayers especially for the many millions of fine Americans and families who find themselves unemployed or underemployed in these very difficult times.

I am personally very grateful that my new business venture, Greg Sherman Art, LLC, www.gregshermanart.com, is off to a good start following my "re-grouping" after my years at Cardinal Newman High School.

I am working on several new paintings, continuing to organize my print production logistics, and getting reading for the busy outdoor art show season which for me begins with the 22nd Annual Las Olas Art Fest (October 24- 25, 2009).

Making much progress on these new paintings-- especially "PGA Championship Number 15" and "TPC Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra, Number 17/16". The photos that I am using as the primary references (that I took this past summer) can be seen above. I plan to post "progress" pictures of these paintings soon.

I hope this finds you all well.

With enthusiasm, I am very pleased to announce that today I received official acceptances into the 22nd Annual Las Olas Art Fair (Oct 24th - 25th)--frankly not an easy show to get into -- , and the 23rd Annual Venice Art Fest (Nov. 7th - 8th). Both of these shows historically have had excellent attendance with as many as 200,000 last year at Las Olas and 120,000 at the Venice show.

My "inaugural" outdoor art show (in my new venture, Greg Sherman Art, LLC), will be the 22nd Annual Las Olas Art Fair. For the 2009-2010 outdoor season (October 2009 - June 2010), I plan to participate in 24 shows throughout Florida, Atlanta, and Hilton Head, SC.

I continue to stay busy working on several paintings, and organizing my limited, numbered, and signed Giclee print series of 15 new editions which will soon appear here and on my web site, www.gregshermanart.com.

I want to wish the CNHS golf teams-- boys Varsity, Junior Varsity, and the girls Varsity a rewarding, enjoyable, challenging, and successful 2009 season.

It was my privilege and honor to have coached the JV team-- which I formally founded at CN with several parents crucial help in 1998-- and the Varsity Boys team from 2002 until this past year for seven exciting, enjoyable, and successful seasons.

As a reminder, the 24th Annual Boca Festival of the Arts Juried show of the Boca Raton Museum's Artists' Guild (in which I have three paintings) will conclude September 11, 2009. The show's venue is the beautiful Courtyard Office Complex just north (west side) of Yamato and Federal in Boca.

Last night, through an email from "Howard Alan Events" www.ArtFestival.com, I received the sad news of the sudden passing on August 4, 2009, of a very talented local (with a national reputation) artist and fine man, Joseph Paul LaPierre.

I have not had the priviledge and honor of meeting Joseph's wife, Melody nor his son, Jesse. I did have the occasion of briefly meeting his daughter, Sarah, on April 19, 2009 at the Delray Festival of the Arts (more said about this below). But, to Joe's wife, Melody, his son Jesse, and his daughter Sarah, I extend my heartfelt condolences and hope for their comfort and peace in the future.

I met Joe only once-- the sunny morning of April 19, 2009 at the Delray Festival of the Arts, along Atlantic Avenue around 10:30 AM. I had never seen his work before. I had never heard of him prior to April 19. I went to the Delray Festival of Arts on a "fact-finding, information-gathering" mission.

When, after being suddenly laid off of my teaching, coaching position at Cardinal Newman HS because of the horrible economy (after 12 years of a wonderful experience), I decided it was time to try this "outdoor art show" circuit full-time. I had had some good success with it part-time in years past.

This was a "Howard Alan Events" show, and my plan for 2009-10 is to show in about 15+ Howard Alan Events. So, this was a good chance to check out a local show (I had been to several Howard Alan Events over the past ten years).

As I strolled along Atlantic Avenue, starting at Veteran's Park {where I showed for three years -- 2001-2004, with the Delray Art League), I proceeded west along Atlantic Avenue. Before too long, on the north side, with a double 10" x 10" tent display beautifully crisp, vibrant, large paintings caught my eye. I had to see this work. It was Joe's display.

I walked around quietly at first admiring his work, taking in the clear, but incredibly well orchestrated palette knife strokes that I have personally not attempted before. Joe was busy speaking in a naturally friendly, hospitable manner with some serious prospective buyers. I noticed a lovely, young lady with him (who was, as I was later introduced to, his beloved daughter Sarah). When Joe was free, I introduced myself. I told him that I really loved his work-- that I was impressed by the large scale of his paintings. I then told him that I was planning on showing in future Howard Alan Events, that I specialized in golf landscapes as well as Florida and "Low Country" landscapes in the South.

Joe immediately gave me encouragement, volunteering very helpful information. I had some specific questions for him, but people came walking up inquiring about his paintings-- I politely excused myself, already having benefited from his experience, his specific insights, and his encouragement. I proceeded down along Atlantic Avenue.

Later, I worked myself back East, and dropped by Joe's display tent for a second visit. He was speaking with folks, handling transactions -- with Sarah assisting-- with great enthusiasm and friendliness-- what an infectious smile !!

When people cleared out (momentarily), I continued my earlier conversation and Joe was very willing to answer the questions I had, and provided more helpful information.

I buy very few prints or originals from other artists, but I loved Joe's work.

So, I looked through his prints and after relishing many possibilities, I found one that really appealed to me: not sure the title, but it is a print of the original in the upper portion of the very moving picture of Joe playing the guitar with his son Jesse that appeared in last night's email, "The Art Community has lost a great friend, a companion, and a leader."

As I handed my credit card to him to purchase the print, Joe first introduced me to his daughter Sarah -- with such a sparkle in his eye. Joe then smiled at me and handed my card back without scanning it. I was puzzled, "Joe, what's that about ?" Enjoy. I was floored !!

What a gesture of generosity and encouragement to a new, aspiring artist to the outdoor art show circuit.

His print has been displayed in my studio since that day.

I have meet many, many people over my very enriched and varied life experiences during the past 58 years. I left that show feeling SO high with encouragment, and saying to myself, "I hope I can be like that guy (Joe) in dealing with people, in sharing my art work in the future."

I spent maybe a total of 15 minutes with Joe on April 19, 2009 in our two visits during the Delray Festival of the Arts. I did send him a "thank you" email later. I did not see Joe again. I had hoped to see him at Sunfest. But, I did not make it there this year. Now, I really regret not going.

Again I spent only 15 minutes in Joe's presence. I came away really impressed by his artistic talent but more importantly by his natural warmth, friendliness, hospitality, generorsity, and enthusiasm for life.

With their many years with Joe, the degree and level of loss that his wife Melody, son Jesse, daughter Sarah, and other family members and close friends must be experiencing is hard to swallow. But, I have lost dear loved ones myself. I do have some sense of their individual and family loss and pain.

There is some comfort and consolation to be found in the multitude of paintings that Joe left to so, so many to enjoy.

I was really looking forward to showing with Joe during the upcoming outdoor art show season. His absence will be tough for so, so many of his fellow artists and his collectors-- of originals and prints.

When one of his admirers is likely to ask me this year, "Where is Joe LaPierre ?", I will very humbly respond, "Let me tell you about the 15 minutes I spent with Joe."

Joe's art will live forever. But, after meeting him and reading last night's very moving email, the true legacy that Joe leaves behind (but just temporarily) - is his wife, son, and daughter. For as his loving, dedicated family ended last night's email, "Joseph, we celebrate your ''joie de vivre,' and I look forward to seeing you in eternity." Love, Melody, Jesse, and Sarah.

Melody, Jesse, and Sarah....please be comforted and consoled by a loving, mericiful, and always compassionate Lord. I look forward to meeting you at Joe's memorial service to be held in the future.

Castillo San Marcos, St. Augustine, Future Painting, Etc

I hope and trust you and yours have been having a fine weekend.

I have been a bit concerned, but not overly so, about my sister and her husband who live on the shore near Cape Cod in Mass. Hurricane Bill, while not making landfall there, is having some effects this evening. My sisters tm to me around 9:10 PM said they are fine.

Above, please see a picture or two of the Castillo San Marcos or also known as Ft. San Marcos. It is one of my earliest memories having visited there on a family vacation many years ago-- probably the first time around 1958 or 59-- I was seven or eight. I loved St. Augustine then and still do today.

Back in early July, 2009, on my return from a trip to TPC, Sawgrass, Ponte Vedre for photos for a golf painting, I intentionally stopped for a day and night in St. Augustine. I took many photos for future paintings of the "Dunes Series" (earlier posted here) and the "Low Country" marsh scenes. I also want to do a painting of "Castillio San Marcos" featured above. Among its many historic notable events, was the unfortunate and unjust imprisonment of Osceola, Chief of the Seminoles, by Andrew Jackson. Read the history sometime and you'll see why such an imprisonment was trickery, and unjust -- leading to the eventual, early, and pre-mature death of such a noble person-- Chief Osceola. I hope to do a very elaborate painting in the future of an old Forida swamp scene with Seminoles in it.

I have been busy this weekend with some painting techniques, working on two golf landscapes (including a private commission which is progressing nicely), and business matters.

Please keep in your prayers a good friend of mine of many years, who has given so much to so many and their families over the past years. He has recently fallen on very difficult financial times and has to now sell his house-- his future is uncertain-- not fair for such a kind and generous man. Please keep him in your prayers. Thanks.

This is the other photo that I am using for the 24" x 36" painting of "TPC, Sawgrass, Number 16 and 17, Ponte Vedra." The completed painting will focus on the "Island Green," Number 17, and will also show the green on Number 16 (left margin of both photos) with "The Walk" from the 16th green to the "dreaded" 17th tee.

It is "dreaded" as many tournaments have been lost on this "Island Green" hole. When I attended the 2005 TPC at Sawgrass, I stood along with thousands of fans watching the drama (and the drunken spectators).

Hello All,
At my last count, I have 14 paintings underway in various size canvasses, stages of completion. I am enjoying all of them: golf landscapes, Florida landscapes, the "Dunes Series," and "Mangrove, Tidal, and Water Birds Series."
Among the golf landscapes, I am making good progress with "PGA Championship, # 15" (see previous posting for its photo). I have a self-imposed completion deadline of PGA # 15 of August 30, 2009.
Please see above two photos of "TPC, Sawgrass, # 17 and #16, Ponte Vedra, Florida" that I took this past June at the FSGA Amateur. I have not previously posted these. Both PGA, # 15, and TPC, Sawgrass, # 17 and #16 are large paintings.... 24" x 36" (unframed.)
This "Island Green" is probably one of the most recognizable (and loudest on the TPC's final, Sunday round) golf holes on the PGA Tour. It is very much in demand among golf art fans. I project having this completed mid-September, 2009 and I anticipate this print being very popular.

"Dunes Series" -- Future Paintings

Greetings All,

I have been asked by several people if I paint seascapes.

Actually, I have not to date painted any, as my focus has been on painting scenes of well known (and privately commissioned) golf landscapes, and another of my favorite subjects-- Florida landscapes and "Low Country" settings in Georgia and South Carolina.

On my recent trip to North Florida (July, 2009), I intentionally visited the dunes and beach areas of Ponte Vedre (Jacksonville) Beach, and St. Augustine Beach. I have always loved these settings -- my parents, six siblings, and I many, many years ago spent wonderful vacations in these locations.

Please see above some photos that I took on my July excursion that will provide the basis for a series of "Dunes" paintings that I will be doing in the near future.

Hello All,

Today, I was very busy on several paintings. One is a private commission of a golf landscape-- hope to have it completed by the end of August, early September, 2009.

I started today on a three painting series, "Mangroves-- Intracoastal, Tranquilty," which I am excited about. These paintings are based on photos that I took on July 30, 2009 in and around John D. MacArtur State Park, north of Singer Island, Florida. Please see above photo which is serving as the basis for the "anchor' painting in this series-- which is a 16" x 20" canvass.

Also making fine progess on PGA Championship, Number 15. I have an internal deadline for this painting of August 30th or earlier as I want to include this among my three submitted paintings to be juried into the 2010, Arti-Gras art festival Presidents Day weekend in Feburary.

Greetings All,

Recently, on a very clear sunny day on my return from a visit to Juno Beach, I took many photos of the beautiful setting of the Intracoastal, North Singer Island. I took most of the shots from the bridge and the A1A bend near John D. MacArthur State Park. The first Florida landscape that I painted was in 1994, a commission for a parishioner of St. Paul of the Cross. It was of mangroves, the outgoing tide, and water birds found in this setting-- a place that the parishioner loved and drove by everyday day. She passed away several years ago, the painting is now with her daughter in California.

I have received some serious interest lately for similar paintings, and I enjoy doing them. I plan to start soon on a series of three - four of various canvass sizes. They will also likely be popular prints for the upcoming outdoor art show season.

Please see the photos above of this location just on the other side of North Singer Island.

I am currently making progress with three golf landscapes, and hope to have them completed by the end of August, 2009. Look for them in the future on my web site, www.gregshermanart.com, sometime early to mid-September.

The other day, actually it was Thursday, July 30 I got an interesting phone call on my Blackberry. When I answered, Jack Nicklaus was on the other line. "Hey Deac, I'm going to be out at the Palm Beach County Golf Association's Amateur Championship tomorrow. I see that my son Gary is playing with previous 2007 Champion Chappell Brown." "Jack, you'r right dude, I'll meet you there. Chappell's Dad will be there as well." "Great Deac, Barbara and I'll see you there. Hey, as always, bring your camera-- got to get a photo op with Chappell and his Dad. OK Deac?" "No, problem, later Jack."

Next day, Friday, July 31, 2009, after the exciting "roller coaster" of golf, at the breathtaking Loxahatchee Golf Club, designed by himself, Jack Nicklaus came up to me on the 18th and final hole, "Deac, you gotta get a picture of me, Chappell and his Dad." "I don't know Jack, I have a really important meeting I have to get to." "Come on Deac, please." "OK, Jack, any thing for you."

A few minutes later, Jack Nicklaus had his picture taken with Chappell Brown and his dad Chap-- taken for all memoriam. Priceless !!!

Hello All,

I hope that you all have had a good weekend. I have spent the weekend visiting (on the phone and on-line) with out of town relatives, working on several paintings, continuing to organize my relatively new business, Greg Sherman Art, LLC, and just chillin.

This past Saturday, during my Saturday oil workshop class at the Armory Art Center (WPB), I put the finishing touches on and completed two paintings: (1) Pines and Backwoods: Follow the River, 18" x 24 " original oil on canvass, and (2) Low Country Marsh: St. Augustine, Florida, 10" x 20" original oil on canvass.

Both paintings are based on photos that I have taken during my travels throughout Florida. Above, I have displayed photos of these paintings. Of course, the photos do not due complete justice to the actual paintings. These paintings will also be listed on my web site, www. gregshermanart.com, when I update it in about a month with new originals and prints.

New Painting in Process: PGA, Championship, Number 15

Greetings All,

My weekly oil workshop at the Armory Art Center (West Palm Beach) today went well-- we had a "double-class"-- painting from 9:30 AM thru 2:30 PM (with a brief lunch break). I continue to go to this workshop as my instructor, nationally-known Martha Myers, always has a fantastic eye and insights to improve my paintings-- as subtle and sublime as her observations usually are !!

Today she had very constructive suggestions that helped me put the "finishing" touches on two of my now completed paintings: Pines, Backwoods, and Follow the River, Oil, 18 " x 24"; Low Country Florida Marsh, Oil, 10" x 20". I'll soon be displaying these paintings here, and they'll also be on my web site, http://www.gregshermanart.com/., sometime in late August or mid-September.

I am also having great fun and challenge working on three paintings of well-known golf courses: (1) Atlantic City (NJ) Golf and Country Club, Number 18 [private commission with an end of August projected completion]; (2) TPC, Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra, Fl, Number 17/16; and, (3) PGA Championship (PB Gardens, FL), Number 15. New Painting, "Pines, Backwoods, Follow the River"

Hello All,

Today, I had a wonderful visit and lunch with a lifelong friend, Mary Clark who now resides in Juno Beach, Florida. Mary is a quick-witted (always has been), energitic, loving, and beautiful 84 years of life lady who, together with her dearly departed husband George ("Coo"), were best friends with my departed parents for more than forty years. Together, Mary and Coo raised four amazing sons (son Merle departed and now with his father George for eternity) all of whom have really neat families-- wonderfully talented and diverse. Wow, do our families have some great memories and stories!! Mary and I laughed (and maybe even cried a little) over some of them today.

Mary and I took a wonderful walk from her residence to and around Pelican Lake-- saw quite a bit of wildlife including a three-foot iguana-- and then walked up to the ocean.

Mary and my late Mom, Ellen Marie Sherman, were painting partners for many years. Between them over many years they graced a multitude of residences and offices in the Palm Beach/Broward County areas with their beautiful paintings which were much in demand. I wish now that I had kept a record of them so I could visit them.

After our walk, it was "show and tell time." Mary showed me some photos that she plans to convert into paintings in the near future-- I can't wait to see them.

I then shared with Mary two of my recent, nearly completed paintings. Mary always has a helpful suggestion or two as she did this time. Above, please see one of them, "Pines, Backwoods, and Follow the River, " 18" x 24" original oil-- I have to add a few egrets to complete the "feel."

Mary and I then had a wonderful lunch of delicious pot roast complete with roasted potatoes, carrots, and peas. Mary is an incredible cook.

This was a wonderful day for me, and I believe for Mary, visiting with and spending precious time with such a dear friend of my parents, my family, and me.

I hope everyone is well. I continue to be busy working on many paintings in various stages of progress. I also am working on a wide variety of sizes-- from 11" x 14" to 24" x 36". I am building up my inventory readying myself for the busy outdoor art season which begins in October and lasts through late May in Florida. Recently, I set up my display tent in a local park, and displayed some of my artwork in it. Opening and Reception, 24th Annual Boca Festival of The Arts Juried Show

Today, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM is the formal opening and reception which I will be attending for the 24th Annual Boca Festival of the Arts Juried Exhibition of the Boca Raton Museum's Artists' Guild.

I have three paintings that were juried into this show. There are 45 artists participating with more than 95 paintings and sculptures that were juried in. The show, July 27 - September, 11, 2009 is at the beautiful Courtyard Office Complex, Federal Highway and Yamato Road (west side). I will post some pictures of this event soon. Hello All, Here are the pictures of the three paintings that I have exhibited in the 24th Annual Boca Festival of the Arts of the Boca Raton Museum's Artists' Guild, July 27- September 11, 2009. Hope you enjoy them

Greetings All. I am pleased to announce that all three of the original oil paintings that I submitted were juried into the 24th Annual Boca Festival of the Arts show of the Boca Raton Museum Artists' Guild of which I am a member.

The show's venue is the beautiful Courtyard Office Complex located on Federal Highway, just north of Yamato Road on the west side. The opening and reception is tommorrow, Saturday, August 1, 2:00 PM - 4:00PM and lasts through September 11, 2009. Please see the pictures below that I have in this show.
